William Carey University is ranked first among Mississippi’s four-year schools in Money.com’s 2025 “Best Colleges in America” list.

“I’m proud of the dedicated team at WCU whose hard work has paid off again. It’s a huge honor for our students, faculty and staff, alumni, and board of trustees to be recognized at this level. We will keep working hard to represent our university in Mississippi – and across the country,” said WCU President Ben Burnett.

Money is a personal finance platform founded in 1972. Its stated mission is to educate, inform, and empower people to make smarter financial decisions at every stage of life.

Of more than 2,400 four-year public and private colleges in the U.S., 732 schools met Money’s requirements for ranking – at least 500 undergraduate students, sufficient reliable data, no financial distress, and graduation rates above the median.

Qualifying schools were ranked in three categories:

  • Quality of education, 30 percent. Includes graduation rates, standardized test scores of incoming freshmen, student-to-faculty ratio, financial health and Pell Grant outcomes.
  • Affordability, 40 percent. Includes the net price of a degree, comparison of price paid by students in different income brackets, awards and scholarships, debt after graduation, and ability to repay debt.
  • Earnings, 30 percent. Includes alumni income 10 years after college, those not working one year after college, adjustments for alumni economic/academic profiles, students from low- and moderate-income homes, and comparison of colleges offering similar majors.

William Carey earned Mississippi’s top ranking – four stars out of five in Money’s assessment. Money’s list of top Mississippi schools also included Alcorn State, Belhaven, Delta State, Mississippi State, University of Mississippi and Southern Mississippi.
