The Scriptural passage chosen for today is found in Hebrews 1:9: “You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore, God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.” The Word of God for the people of God; thanks be to God! The Christian is to be separate and set apart as are sheep and goats. Because we possess the gift of salvation, we are in essence “marked.” We choose to live in light rather than darkness. Instead of walking about with a hang-dog look, we are anointed with the oil of joy by none other than God Himself. Let us, therefore, show joy. As I often do, I’ll quote lyrics from the old gospel song “Give the World a Smile”: “Let your life so be that all the world may see the joy of serving Jesus with a smile, a bright, shining smile.”
