There will be a special “working” meeting of the Simpson County School Board at the District office Tuesday August 26 at 5:30 PM. Architect Gary Bailey will be reviewing his assessment of our facilities. Mr Bailey is the same architect who did a study for the previous board a few years ago when that board was trying to consolidate the high schools. Mr Bailey offered to update his study free of charge and has already made one presentation. We asked him if he would make us a list of priorities with most urgent needs so we can figure out the most economical way to proceed. We do have some roofs that need to be replaced- these are our most urgent needs. We also have some needed HVAC upgrades.
Everyone in the County should be interested in this meeting and I hope many of you will come. The public schools belong to all of us- especially the tax-paying public. Whether you have children in our public schools or not, remember they are truly “our” schools because all of us are paying for them and the public school students are our relatives and neighbours. I urge you to stay involved in the public schools even if if your own children are in home-school or private school, or if your children are no longer in school. You need to know what is going on in the schools and how your tax money is being used.
