Words and Seeds

This is the most wonderful time of the year for many and the most depressing time of the year for others. My daddy died on Pearl Harbor day in 1973. He was 50 years old, active and still full of life!

Think positive thoughts

November 14, 2025

I still remember the poinsettias at his funeral. There are many of us who have lost loved ones and no matter how ago the loss occurred, the hurt still stings and still hits us at this time of the year. What do we say to help those who are hurting?

I have realized that words are like seeds.   When people tell me how much they love me, when they call and are “just checking on you”, when they see you in Walmart and are so glad to see you and give you a hug – these are seeds planted in hearts. It reassures us that we matter, that our memories are important, that we share a bond of lost loved ones and we are all victims of the grim reaper.

Words have power!   They do not need to be eloquent, they don’t need to be long and flowery. Just a heartfelt “How are you?” “I’m thinking of you” or “I’m praying for you” goes a long way to soothe the sting of loss and hurt. Be kind this Christmas Season! Slow down long enough to share a simple word of kindness and you will plant a seed of love and thoughtfulness that might help someone overcome the pull of depression!!
