WESSON – The Co-Lin football team wrapped up the 2021 regular season with Homecoming against South Division foe, Jones College, on Thursday, October 28. The Bobcats beat the Wolves by a final of 21-7.

Neither team mustered much offense during the first quarter as the defenses allowed a combined 39 yards of total offense and the game was scoreless at the end of the quarter. The second quarter featured more offense from both teams but neither team could find a way to put points on the board as the defenses continued to their strong play throughout the first half including an early goal line stand by the Wolves defense in the second quarter.

The game remained scoreless as both teams went to the locker rooms at halftime.

The Bobcats broke the scoreless tie with their first possession of the second half with a 33-yard scoring pass and then scored on their next possession with a 60-yard scoring pass. Both PATs were successful, and the Bobcats led 14-0 with 8:55 left in the third quarter.

The lone touchdown for the Wolves came on their ensuing possession as sophomore quarterback Paul Hargrave (Natchez) connected with sophomore receiver Tyquan Henderson (Canton) from five yards out to complete a six play, 73-yard scoring drive. The successful PAT by sophomore kicker Bryce Lofton (Sand Hill) cut the Bobcats lead to 14-7 with 6:08 remaining in the third quarter.

The Bobcats added one final touchdown on a three-yard rush early in the fourth quarter to increase the lead to 21-7. The Wolves offense was stalled out by the defensive efforts of the Bobcats for the remainder of the game securing the 21-7 win.

Paul Hargrave completed 10 of 25 pass attempts for 122 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions while freshman quarterback Colton Gardner (Madison) completed four of seven pass attempts for 33 yards with one interception.

Sophomore running back Tyrese Johnson-Fisher had 50 yards on 13 rushes while Tyquan Henderson hauled in four catches for 87 yards and one touchdown.

Sophomore linebacker Jalen Campbell (Winona) led the Wolves defense with 12 total tackles while sophomore defensive back Abdural Lee (Starkville) added ten tackles with one pass breakup. Campbell and Lee both had one tackle for loss during the game also. Sophomore defensive back Travell Cook (Miami, Florida) had nine tackles on the night with sophomore linebacker Jamal Pye (Byhalia) added seven tackles. Freshman linebacker Shawn Wade (Hernando) had two fumble recoveries for the Wolves defense.

Bryce Lofton had a big night punting for the Wolves as he was crucial in flipping the field throughout the contest as he averaged 52 yards across nine punts (total yardage of 468) and had four punts go within the 20 (two for touchbacks) while those four punts also went 50+ yards and two of those went 60+ yards including a season and Wolves-career long 66-yard punt.

The Wolves finish the 2021 season with a 3-6 overall record and 3-3 in South Division play.
