SENATOBIA – The Co-Lin Football team took to the road to face off against Northwest Mississippi Community College on Thursday, September 2. The third-ranked Rangers earned a hard-fought victory over the Wolves by a final of 31-12.

The first quarter featured a heavy look at defensive efficiency as neither offense gained more 35 yards in the first five possessions of the contest; however, the Rangers broke the scoreless game as Jaquerrious Williams scored from two yards out capping off a seven play, 75-yard drive. The successful PAT attempt gave the Rangers a 7-0 lead with 1:15 left in the first quarter.

The first touchdown for the Wolves came midway through the second quarter after a snap over the head of the Rangers’ punter led to a turnover-on-downs on the Northwest 15 yard-line. Freshman running back Bobby Shanklin, Jr., (Macon) needed just two plays to score as he scampered in from 13 yards out for the first touchdown of the season for the Wolves. A missed PAT cut the Rangers lead down to 7-6 with 7:11 remaining in the first half.

The Rangers utilized a late touchdown drive to extend their lead over the Wolves as Micheal Hiers connected with Keyon Fordham from 27 yards out capping off a three play, 75-yard drive. Another successful PAT gave the Rangers a 14-7 lead with 2:21 remaining in the half and the Rangers carried the advantage into the locker rooms at halftime.

The second half saw the Rangers offense score on their first three possessions of the game as Hiers completed a 59-yard pass to D.T. Sheffield for one score, while Jamerian Bracey added a one-yard touchdown rush, and Eli Hamlin added a 23-yard field goal on the respective possessions.

The final touchdown for the Wolves came midway through the fourth quarter. Sophomore quarterback Paul Hargrave (Natchez) found freshman tight end Harold Rhodes (Silver Creek) in the back of the endzone from three yards out capping off a four play, 11-yard drive setup by a fumble recovery by the Wolves defense on the Northwest 11-yard line. The PAT attempt was missed cutting the Rangers lead to 31-12 with 6:58 left in the game.

The Rangers defense stalled the Wolves offense for the remainder of the game and sealed the 31-12 win.

Paul Hargrave completed 12 of 26 pass attempts for 62 yards with one interception for the Wolves offense. Bobby Shanklin, Jr., led the rushing attack with 47 yards on nine carries with one touchdown, while freshman Tyrese Johnson-Fisher (London, England) added 35 yards on six carries. Sophomore receiver Tyquan Henderson (Canton) led the receiving corps with three receptions for 35 yards.

Sophomore defensive back Abdural Lee (Starkville) led the Wolves defense with ten total tackles, while freshman linebacker Shawn Wade (Hernando) added eight tackles with a half sack, and sophomore defensive back Malik Jones (Crystal Springs) added six tackles with a half sack during the contest. Sophomore defensive linemen Nate White (Orlando, Florida) and Devante Stancel (Natchez) added a half sack each, while sophomore defensive lineman Lamarcus Faulkner (Oxford) led the defense in sacks with two.

The Wolves are now 0-1 overall on the season and will turn their attention to a road contest against the Indians of Itawamba Community College. The action will kick off at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, September 9, at Eaton Field in Fulton.
