Willie Qualls, the suspect in Simpson County who stole a vehicle and led police on a manhunt, has been captured.

According to the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department, Qualls was arrested near JJ’s Shell Station in Mendenhall before 8:00 AM.

Simpson County deputies chased a stolen vehicle along Highway 49 onto Athens Road.  Qualls drove the vehicle into the woods and ran away on foot.

Willie Qualls is being held at the Simpson County jail.

Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted the SO.

The Simpson Co. Sheriff’s Dept. Recently Pursued a stolen vehicle along US Highway 49 near Magee. The driver, Willie Gene Qualls, ran the stolen vehicle into the woods near the railroad tracks and fled on foot. A multi-agency manhunt is underway. We ask all residents to make sure that their vehicles are locked and the keys removed.
