COLLINS, Miss – Michael Williamson has been appointed Therapy Services Director for Covington County Hospital and will also oversee therapy service offerings at Magee General Hospital and Simpson General Hospital.

Each hospital has partnered with Mid South Rehab Services to provide physical, occupational, and speech therapy. “We chose Mid South in order to facilitate consistent and excellent care at each location,” said Williamson. “If staff travel between locations, they will have the same resources.”

Williamson has 30 years of experience in therapy services, having helped start the sports medicine program at Hattiesburg Clinic in 2002. He studied pre-PT at Pearl River Community College and received an athletic training and secondary education degree at USM. He attended PT school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and, in 2013, received his Doctorate in PT from UMMC.

“Our goal,” says Williamson, “is to update our facilities and equipment to better serve our communities. In addition, we want to provide more opportunities for patients to receive care locally.”

New therapy equipment options available include the Game Ready cold system for enhanced injury and surgery recovery that is highly effective in decreasing pain and swelling and increasing blood flow. The departments will be able to treat total knee and rotator cuff repair and all athletic injuries. Within the hospital setting, therapy is provided for swing bed and acute care patients.

“I have enjoyed meeting and getting to know the staff at all three hospitals, and I’ve been impressed with how each person I have met puts the patient first. I grew up in the small town of Prentiss, and what attracted me to Covington and Simpson Counties is the community feeling,” said Williamson.

CCH Therapy Services can be reached at 601-698-0298, with appointments available from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.
