William A. Abernathy
(March 29, 1919 – September 11, 2016)
William Arthur Abernathy, 97, of Mendenhall, passed from this life Sunday, September 11, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Mendenhall. Bro. Roger Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Mendenhall.
He loved to hunt, fish and was a hardworking man, who loved his family. He was a member of Westville Masonic Lodge number 78 since 1942. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and a charter member of the Westville Hunting Club for thirty plus years.
Mr. Abernathy is survived by his Son, Johnny C. Abernathy (Sheryl) of Mendenhall, MS; Daughter, Nett Kelly (Steve) of Mendenhall, MS; Ten grandchildren, Thirty great-grandchildren; Twenty- seven great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Abernathy is preceded in death by his Wife, Myrtle Blair Abernathy; Parents, Johnny Chesley Abernathy and Rosie Abernathy; Brothers, Jim Abernathy, Dewey Abernathy, Tom Abernathy; Sisters, Evora Sullivan, Sally Bass; Daughter, Georgia Mae “Mamie” Peacock; and Grandson, Tommy Peacock.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall.
