There’s rumbling in the county concerning the finances of the Simpson County School District. The county has been audited by several groups…and now the county has hired a local CPA Firm (Charles R Prince) to reconcile the books.
What’s happening?
This much I can tell you: There is no money missing—the problem is a paperwork issue.
Fines and penalties for the late filing of W-2 equals $83,000. According to Board Attorney Wesla Sullivan, the county office will be working with the IRS to rectify this situation.
The school system is audited every year by the State. No problems were mentioned during the yearly audit.
Attorney Sullivan emphasized that the problem is a clerical issue and not funds.
I reached out to a school board member who stated, “all records are public knowledge and they as a board speak through their minutes.” Minutes from the January 14, 2021 meeting are not available at this time but will be in the coming days.
