The open hearing for Jim Nowell concerning his Athletic Director and Head Football Coach position at Magee is over…now comes the “study” time by the Simpson County School Board.

Once the board has received the transcript of the hearing, the members will discuss and present a decision on Coach Nowell’s plight. The decision is to be given in 30 days.

I’m sure there is probably some good reason for this, but I do not understand why the board members were not at the hearings! The Judge made it quite clear from day one that HE would not make a decision as to the fate of Jimbo’s days at Magee. The Judge, from what I could tell, kept the hearing in line from a courtroom perspective…he was not forming an opinion that would be shared with the board members.

I don’t know about ya’ll, but I can tell so much more about what a person is saying when I not only hear but see how a person says something…not just by reading words on a piece of paper. I am sure there is some reason the board was not in attendance but I don’t know what the reason is….

Maybe I’ve watched to much Law and Order…but the “jury” was always in attendance and not just reading a transcript. But oops, this isn’t a trial…it is a hearing…that is probably where the difference comes in…I wonder if board members had an option to attend or were they told to “stay home.” Lots of questions to me……
