Wendy Seals Speaks at Rotary Meeting

Magee, MS. Wendy Seals, Director of Angel Wings Outreach Center (AWOC) in Mendenhall, MS, addressed the weekly meeting of The Rotary Club of Simpson County on Thursday, October 15, at Western Sizzlin’ Restaurant in Magee.

“Mississippi is fifth in the nation in terms of domestic violence on women,” said Ms. Seals. AWOC’s mission is to provide a place of safety for women and women with children who are victims of domestic violence crimes. “What’s really sad is to see the children acting out what they witnessed in the home,” said Ms. Seals. They throw chairs around, and even hit or slap their mothers because this is what they see in the home.

In addition to emergency safe shelter, AWOC maintains a 24/7 crisis line (866-847-5802), provides individual and group counseling, public education programs, life skills, referral services, and even legal advocacy.

Ms. Seals asked Rotarians to continue to pray for them and the ministry they provide. “And we can always use cleaning supplies, too,” added Ms. Seals. Financial support in the form of a monthly pledge can be made by contacting Wendy Seals at the Angel Wings Outreach Center, PO Box 787, Mendenhall MS 39114, or calling her at 601-847-5802.

The Rotary Club of Simpson County, is one of five new clubs in the Central Mississippi District. The district has nearly 2400 members among its 48 clubs.
