On February 14, 2025, at approximately 6:00 PM, the Magee Police Department received a request for a welfare check at a residence on 3rd Ave SW. The caller, the resident’s son who lives out of state, reported that he had not been able to make contact with his mother for over a week and was concerned for her well-being.
An officer responded to the location but was initially unable to make contact with anyone. Shortly after, the patrol commander arrived on scene and observed that a food delivery, which had been there for over a week, remained untouched. At that point, both officers knocked on doors and windows until they finally heard the homeowner calling for help, stating that she was stuck.
The Magee Fire Department was immediately called to assist with gaining entry into the residence. Upon entry, the homeowner was found trapped under household items that had fallen on her, leaving her unable to move or get out of bed for several days.
This a powerful reminder that every call is crucial. I commend our officers, the Magee Fire Department, and Covington Ambulance Service for their unwavering commitment to service. Their relentless efforts ensured that help reached a resident in dire need, ultimately saving a life. I also extend my gratitude to the concerned family member who alerted us to the situation. Together, we exemplify the spirit of community and service.
