While cruising around Magee Monday, Zach and Chuck came upon a huge sink hole on 12th Avenue near the Walking Track.
Zach immediately took pictures and explained to me that the hole is about 3 feet deep. The sink hole is not a “new” hole. The city has been dealing with the problem for about a year and a half. According to Mayor Dale Berry, “ we are waiting on the rain to clear to take care of the situation.”
The problem arose from a homeowner who following an addition to his home covered up the existing water lines. The city paid the city engineer to address the situation. Originally, the homeowner was not happy with the repair but now has agreed to allow the city to move forward in repairing the sink hole. Alderman Lane Steele worked with the homeowner to resolve the situation.
The pipes needed for the repair are already on location at the old swimming pool area. Mayor Berry says, “we are waiting on the weather to began repairs.”
Additional pylons will be placed around the sink hole making the area more visible to the public.
On another pot hole note:
Thanks to Danny Craft and the Board of supervisors in assisting with the area in East Side that required a lot of repair. Alderman Lane Steele talked to Supervisor Danny Craft about the issue and with the boards support over $5,000 of culverts were directed to the city of Magee. Good job by our Alderman and Board of Supervisors. (Remember, city residents pay city and county taxes.)
