Voting is in full swing in Mississippi and here in Simpson and surrounding counties with the polls opening at 7 AM.
I visited the City of Magee Civic Center mid morning to cast my vote. Much to my surprise, the place was humming with lots of people casting their vote.

I was informed of one problem at the Civic Center…names not on the voter roles. Two long time voter’s names were no where on the list and required voting affidavit. Affidavit ballots are counted after all other ballots are counted. I have actually seen affidavit ballots swing an election! Several years ago, the candidate who won “popular” vote lost in the counting of affidavit ballots.
MageeNews.com will cover tonight’s election. We will not be continuously live but will update as stats are available. We will also post on MageeNews.com FB page the vote count pages as they become available.
Please encourage everyone to vote!
I don’t think I’ve seen a ballot that had as many unopposed races!
Polls close at 7 PM
On Tuesday, August 15, 2023, an election will be held to fill the position vacated by the death of Ward 2 Alderman Matthew Hickman. Only citizens who live in Ward 2 will vote in the election which will be held at the Civic Center. Lawana Thompson and Joe Worrell are seeking the position.
