Under the direction of Joe Worrell, the City of Magee hosted their annual Veterans Day Parade and Celebration.  The weather was perfect!  I cannot tell you how much this day means to our veterans.  Each year I take the MageeNews.co golf cart and ride 3 men in the parade. We lined up near the library with vehicles in front and behind!  Army tanks are in the parade!  The fire truck is in the parade!  The band is in the parade!  The police chief is in the parade!  The guest speaker (Mark Brister) is in the parade in a convertible!  Golf carts are in the parade…but most of all there are men who gave their service to our country. The parade route passes both sides of Magee High School and Middle School.  The students line the sidewalks waving to the veterans.  Many of the students clapped and yelled “thank you” to the guys.

Eugene Cook road in the front of the golf cart with me.  I’m just saying, ridding in that parade is quite emotional for me.  I don’t think anyone understand what the cheers and waving of the flags means to these guys!  The students at Magee School were very respectful and encouraging to the men.  I was proud of my school!

Following the parade, a time of fellowship and visiting the museum tooks place at the Magee Community House.  The program began around 11 AM.  Mayor Dale Berry welcomed everyone and Brother Gene Amason II gave the opening and closing prayer.  The Colors were presented followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Community Alert—Magee Schools on Lock Down

You know, a band just makes a parade and gathering!  One of my favorite parts is when the band plays the Armed Forces Medley and the servicemen stand up to their “song.”  I almost cry!  The oldest veteran in attendance was 91.  (Awesome job by Magee Band!!!)

SFC/US Army/Ret Mark Brister was the guest speaker.  Mark gave an inspirational speech about his time in the military and the importance of a strong wife at home.  He recognized his wife, Angel, for her support while he was overseas.  Upon retirement from the Army (August), Mark and his wife Angel purchased the Sears Homestore in Magee.

A reception for veterans, active military, and wives was held in the Community House.

The pictures from today are great!  I hope you will take time to look at each one.  Coach Allan Eubanks brought the Magee High School baseball team!

I have video on MageeNews.com Facebook page of today’s event.

(Sue note:  I just have to write from my heart…I love our military)
