POPLARVILLE – The Lady Wolves moved to 15-19 on the year Tuesday afternoon after splitting an MACJC doubleheader with Pearl River Community College in Poplarville. The results give Co-Lin a 10-12 record in league play and moves the Lady Wildcats to 17-19, 9-15.
“Kamryn Vanlandingham had a monster day for us,” said Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent. “She went six for six with two homers and drew two walks.”
The Lady Wolves are back in action Thursday, April 13 as Northeast travels to Wesson. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m.
Co-Lin 9, PRCC 7
An error and a double by Dianna Hobgood broke a 7-7 tie in the top of the seventh inning as the Lady Wolves won game one 9-7 against the Lady Wildcats.
Co-Lin struck first in the top of the second inning as Kamryn Vanlandingham blasted a grand slam to left field. The towering shot plated Alexsundria Thomas, Mackenzie Byrd, and Logan Deroche.
Pearl River cut into the lead in the bottom half of the inning after an error allowed two runners to score. Co-Lin led 4-2 going into the third.
The Lady Wolves added another three runs in the fourth with a single from Taylor Bryant and a double from Vanlandingham.
PRCC bounced back and plated three runs in the fifth to cut the lead to just two, 7-5. In the bottom of the sixth the Lady Wildcats tied the game at seven apiece with three singles.
Vanlandingham led the Lady Wolves at the dish with three hits in three at bats. Byrd finished with two hits. Vanlandingham drove in five runs, while Bryant brought home another two.
Kristen Martin, Kayla Williams, and Krista Robles led PRCC with two hits each.
Bailey Root earned the win for the Lady Wolves. She threw seven innings, surrendering seven runs, nine hits, and striking out four. Jacqueline Shows took the loss for Pearl River. She went three and a third innings, surrendering six runs, four hits, and striking out three.
Pearl River 9, Co-Lin 7
The nightcap was a back-and-forth affair, but PRCC’s four-run bottom of the sixth solidified the victory.
The Lady Wolves struck first in the first inning after Hobgood smashed a two-run homer to center field.
In the third, Vanlandingham hit a solo homer to left, her second home run of the day, to extend the Lady Wolves’ lead to 3-0.
The Lady Wildcats got one back in the bottom of the third off of a double, and took the lead in the fourth after a single and an error scored three. PRCC plated another in the bottom of the fifth to stretch their lead to 5-3.
Co-Lin rallied in the sixth. Bryant ripped a single to left that scored Thomas and Britt to tie the game at five all. Hobgood had a single of her own that scored Bryant to give the Lady Wolves a 6-5 lead going into the bottom of the sixth.
An RBI single, an error, and a double plated three runs for the Lady Wildcats in the bottom of the sixth to give PRCC a 9-6 advantage.
Alex Anthony ripped a single to score Thomas in the seventh for the Lady Wolves, but it was not enough.
Vanlandingham finished with three hits, while Britt and Hobgood posted two each. Hobgood led the Lady Wolves with three RBIs.
Martin led PRCC with three hits. Ilyssa Easton and Sarah Depperschmidt posted two apiece.
Madison Scoggin earned the win for Pearl River. She threw one and two-thirds innings, surrendering one run, two hits, striking out two, and walking one. Bailey Root took the loss for the Lady Wolves. She pitched one-third of an inning, surrendering two runs, two hits, and walking zero.
“Our defense let us down in this game,” said Kent. “We had some leads but we squandered them.”
