During the regular schedule board meeting of the Simpson County Supervisors the subject was address of the vacancy due to the death of Constable Dan Easterling. The board has to appoint someone to fill the position until an election can take place. The board has advised anyone interested in being considered for the position to contact the county office. A copy of the requirements are listed below.
Notice of Vacancy and Interim Appointment – Office of Simpson County Constable, Post 2
The Simpson County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications from persons interested in the interim appointment for Constable, Post 2, which is now vacant due to the death of Constable Dan Easterling. This interim appointment will be applicable until a special election is held on November 6, 2018. Applicants must be residents of the district encompassed by Post 2 and meet all other qualifications of law for serving as constable including qualifying for a surety bond in the amount of $50,000 which is paid for by Simpson County. A map of the Post 2 District may be obtained in the Office of the Board of Supervisors. The Post 2 District includes all of Supervisor’s District 2, the vast majority of Supervisor’s District 4 and the Western portion of Supervisor’s District 5. Law enforcement experience is desired, but not required. Duties of the Constable include preserving the peace, assisting in the execution of the criminal laws of the state, executing and returning all civil and criminal process lawfully directed to him or her, service of process, attend training, attending the Justice Court of the district, serving as bailiff of Justice Court for criminal cases, and other duties as required by law. The office of constable is a fee paid position with compensation based on services rendered as provided by law for the duties listed above. Constables provide their own vehicle. The Board of Supervisors will provide magnetic constable signs for the vehicle, two uniforms, a blue light and a radio. The Board of Supervisors will consider the interim appointment beginning on December 4, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. at their regular meeting.
