The University of Southern Mississippi’s entertainment industry program is searching for promising musicians to compete for the South City Records Artist Development Project 2017. This project could lead to one or more qualified artists being signed with South City Records.

Regional acts with a repertoire of original music in any genre that would benefit from a complete production package should submit an application and demo recording online at www.usm.edu/MCJ by Monday, Jan. 30, or contact Jon Pluskota, USM assistant professor and director of the project by emailing him at jonathan.pluskota@usm.edu. Bands without a demo recording can contact Pluskota for application options.

“Helping inspired artists establish themselves in a professional manner, while giving real-life experience to students in the major, is the primary mission of the USM entertainment industry program,” Pluskota said. “We’ve refined the process from last year to expand opportunities for both musicians and students.”

Bands selected for the project will work with students in the entertainment industry program at USM. This project offers bands with little to no promotional materials the opportunity to gain those materials necessary to the band’s promotion and success, and students receive the opportunity to experience the process of signing and promoting a band. In addition, bands will be performing at Hubfest 2017 as part of the WUSM stage, with students managing the event and production.

Selected bands will get a band package including a music demo, live music video, and promotional materials. Bands will then compete for the chance to be signed with South City Records and receive a full album produced by Golden Eagle Sound and Production.
