USM will celebrate the Fall 2019 Commencement with three separate ceremonies, all at Reed Green Coliseum on the Hattiesburg campus.
As part of Friday’s morning ceremony, esteemed Civil Rights activist and lifelong educator Mrs. Ellie Jewel Davis Dahmer, of Forrest County, Miss., will be awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa. Largely recognized for her work alongside her late husband, voting rights icon Mr. Vernon F. Dahmer Sr., Mrs. Dahmer will be honored for her contributions to the American Civil Rights Movement and her advocacy for literacy and academic achievement.
The schedule is as follows:
Dec. 12
6 p.m. — Commencement ceremony for Doctoral, Specialists, Master’s degree candidates.
Friday, Dec. 13
9 a.m. – Commencement ceremony for undergraduate degree candidates from the Colleges of Business and Economic Development, Education and Human Sciences and Nursing and Health Professions. NOTE: Included will be presentation of an honorary doctorate to Mrs. Ellie Jewel Davis Dahmer.
2 p.m. – Commencement ceremony for undergraduate degree candidates from the College of Arts and Sciences.
