On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at approximately 4:12 a.m., at the request of the Jackson Police Department, the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Highway 80 in Hinds County involving a vehicle actively fleeing from a Jackson Police Officer.
A 2013 Hyundai Elantra, attempting to evade law enforcement, traveled north on University Blvd when it collided with a 2012 Ram 1500 pick-up truck traveling west on Highway 80 in the city limits of Jackson.
Three passengers of the Hyundai received fatal injuries from the crash. Both drivers were transported to UMMC with unknown injuries. Additional information will be released pending notification of next of kin.
This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Jackson Police Department.
