At approximately 5:58 p.m., on June 23, 2021, the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle accident on MS43, north of Wilson Welch Road, in Simpson County.

Preliminary reports indicate a 2022 Peterbilt truck, driven by Ervin A. Caves, 45, of Braxton, MS, was traveling northbound on MS43, and a 2001 Chevrolet S-10, driven by John E. Lucas, 51, of D’Lo, MS, was traveling southbound on MS43 when both vehicles collided with each other.

Mr. Lucas, the driver of the Chevrolet S-10, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Simpson County Coroner. The other occupant of the Chevrolet S-10 was transported by air care to UMMC with unknown injuries. Neither of the occupants of the Chevrolet S-10 were wearing their seatbelts.
