The March 5, 2025, Magee Board of Aldermen meeting was called to order by Mayor Dale Berry. At the request of Alderman Sue Honea, Diane McPhail led in prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
The agenda and minutes were approved.
City engineer Forrest Duncan gave the following reports:
Water meter replacement—Vanguard has completed 99% of the meter replacement.
Lamar Road Sewer Extension—construction is near completion
Paving Project—Southern Paving has completed asphalt paving on all contracted streets.
Clean up and striping is still to be completed.
Park Project—Equipment for the project has been ordered with a lead time of 12-18 weeks. Installation is expected in July. Quotes are being solicited for grading.
Erosion Project (11th Avenue and Big Creek): The grant agreement has been signed. Clearpoint has begun work on plans.
Lagoon Improvements: Preliminary plan includes adding baffles, aerators, biounit to Cell C of lagoon. The city is pursuing a DRA grant.
Clearpoint engineers is checking on developing a master improvements plan for water and sewer line repairs.
Zoning director Penny Aguire presented two properties for Public Hearing March 18, 2025.
9th Street North West and 522 9th Avenue North West.
Both properties are in such a state of uncleanliness to be a menace to public health, safety, and welfare of the community.
City superintendent Tim Bray reported on the good job by the city crew. “These guys work in some tough conditions.”
Fire Chief David Craft informed the public all fire plugs will be painted red. The red color increases their visibility day and night. All plugs will have a reflective band. The department hopes to receive the new radios in less than 30 days. Discussion was held concerning trees that need to be cut around the fire station.
David reported the flower beds next to the bay doors at the fire department will be removed allowing extension of parking. Twenty-one fire calls were received during the month of February…3 structure, 3 grass, vehicle fire, and false alarm.
Mike Berry, of the Magee Airport, stated wi-fi is working at the airport.
Police Chief Denis Borge asked permission to send dispatch officers to 3 classes. Each dispatcher will attend one class: Stress Management ($150), Domestic Violence ($125.00), and Legal Liability ($150). The Chief asked for permission to send officer to Taser class at a cost of $895. The requests were approved. An executive session was requested following the board meeting.
Attorney Wesla Sullivan reported a problem with the water bills still exist. The problem is with the software. Mrs. Sullivan, Jon Styron, Mayor Berry, and additional city personal will attend the meeting to be held at City Hall in the Board room. Software personal will be available for the meeting.
The meeting was adjourned to enter executive session concerning personal.
