Post 1 in the 13 Chancery Court District which is comprised of Covington, Jefferson Davis, Lawrence, Simpson and Smith counties.

First of all let me thank you the voters of our Chancery District for the support and words of encouragement during the campaign over the last several months.

I am 56 years old, have lived in our chancery court district all of my life, and my law office has been located in Monticello for over 30 years.   My wife Elizabeth and I have two adult children and we live in Silver Creek. My parents are the late Laura Hartzog Turnage and the late Robert Glen Turnage, Sr. I have been a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church since 1979 where my wife, children, and I have actively attended.  My family and I are also supportive of our local youth by being involved with our local scout troops and through support of organizations such as the local boys and girls club and various youth sporting activities.  We have also been supportive of habitat for humanity and the animal rescue league. My wife has served as Mayor of Silver Creek for the past 17 years and is also employed in the Lawrence County Chancery Clerk’s office.

I am a 1984 graduate of Monticello High School; 1986 graduate of Co-Lin Junior College; 1988 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Business Administration; and 1991 graduate of Ole Miss Law School.

From 1996 – 1999 I was elected and had the privilege to serve as County Attorney for Lawrence County.  In addition to my law practice I currently serve as one of the Justice Court Judges in Lawrence County, and am appointed as the Municipal Judge for the Towns of Monticello and Prentiss on a part time basis. Since becoming a judge in the year 2000 I have had the opportunity to preside over thousands of cases as a Municipal Judge and/or Justice Court Judge which has given me invaluable experience to serve as a judicial officer. Although there can be many cases on the court docket, I make sure that I treat each and every case that is before the Court with the utmost importance.

As a lawyer I have had the opportunity to represent clients in both civil and criminal cases before the courts of Mississippi including Circuit Court, Chancery Court, Justice Court, Municipal Court, Youth Court, the Mississippi Supreme Court, and various state and federal agencies. This diverse experience has given me an understanding of the attributes needed to be a better judge and decision maker.

My number one goal in the courtroom as the judge is to treat everyone who comes before the court in a fair and respectful manner. I believe that a judge must be professional, fair and have a temperament which is patient and willing to listen to people but at the same time be firm when necessary. I use common sense and try to seek practical solutions in my decisions and also draw upon my experience and knowledge of the law.

I can promise you as your Chancery Judge that you will be treated with respect, and that consistent professionalism and fairness will continue to be my top priorities.

If I have missed you during these past several months then please allow me to ask for your vote and support through this medium on November 8th for Chancery Judge, Post 1.
