Magee High School open season play at home against the Collins Tigers Friday, September 4, 2020. Magee shut the Tigers out with a score of 34-0.
Magee’s defense held strong allowing no points on the night. Magee’s offense outscored the Tigers but not without issues. A wave of yellow flags danced through the air numerous times on the night. Magee’s special teams seemed to have made the needed adjustments showing an improvement from the Jamboree game the previous week.
Collins won the toss and deferred until the second quarter. Magee’s second play of the first possession resulted in a fumble recovered by the Tigers on Magee’s 35-yard line. Magee answered back holding the Tigers to a fourth down stop. Tigers had a bad snap and Magee takes over on Collins 24-yard line. #2 Chandler Pittman crossed the goal line to put the Trojans on the board first. #35 Gavin Chapin point after attempt draws a penalty and the Trojans would go for two. Again, Pittman crossed the goal line for the two-point conversion. Magee leads by a score of 8-0.
#11 Thomas Dyess kicked off for the Trojans. Magee wasted no time finding the end zone on a pass from Pittman to #1 Kaden Bridges with :57 left in the first quarter. Chapin’s point after attempt was good Trojans on top by a score of 15-0.
Second quarter #6 Jody Durr blocked a punt by the Tigers. Trojans take over with great field possession. Bridges scored on a touchdown pass. The point after attempt was no good. Magee led by a score of 21-0. with 5:01 left in the first half.
#7 Xavier Franks scored on a touchdown pass from Pittman with 3:50 left in the half. Chapin’s point after attempt was good. Magee increased the lead to 28-0 headed into half time.
Third quarter Franks found the end zone again on a touchdown pass from Pittman. The point after attempt was no good and the Trojans would seal the score by 34-0.
During the fourth quarter, Pittman completed a long pass to #5 Jaylen Floyd to be called back for an unsportsman like conduct against the Trojans.
Dyess attempted a filed goal with 5:14 left in the game that was no good. Magee’s defense held strong to shut out the tigers with a 34-0 score.
Magee will travel next week to Natchez. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
