Magee High School dominated the Tigers to win the first conference game of the season by a score of 59-0 according to scoreboard but 60-0 as actual score. Magee moves to 4-1 on the year and 1-0 in district play.
The game was moved to Thursday night to accommodate Fall Break for the students and staff of Magee High School.
Captains for the Trojans were #17 J’Kwom Gregory, #18 TyDarrius Owens, and #20 Jaquez Durr.
Magee entered the field sporting new jerseys.
Magee won the toss and deferred the ball until the second half.
Magee’s defense that has been so strong seemed to be off the game drawing several back to back penalties. 1st series McLaurin added yardage by drawing two personal fouls back to back against Magee’s defense and one offsides call. A pass interference on a 4th down situation was called against the Trojans. Penalties put McLaurin in great field possession and with the advantage. The Trojan defense was able to settle down and do what they do best “defend.” #10 Gavin Drones made a defensive play with a pass interception. McLaurin ate up most of the clock for the first quarter.
With 3:00 remaining in the first quarter Tucker hauled in an acrobatic catch for a 35-yard pass completion. With 2:01 remaining the Trojans got on the board first when #23 Jawon Shaw scored on a rushing touchdown. #21 Gavyn Chafin’s point after attempt was good and Trojans lead by a score of 7-0.
McLaurin would start from their 20-yard line. With :30 left in the first quarter Magee’s #20 recovers a fumble for the Trojans on the Tiger’s 30-yard line to end for the first quarter
The start of the second quarter Magee was not able to capitalized on the turn over. Magee’s defense caused McLaurin’s quarter back to draw an intentional grounding in the end zone and resulted in a safety. Magee’s score was 9-0.
McLaurin punted and Magee’s #5 Jaylen Floyd returned the ball to McLaurin’s 30-yard line.
Shaw carried load on Magee’s drive. 6:17 remain in the half Shaw connected with #6 Kyerston Tucker on a touchdown pass. Tucker completed the two point conversion. Magee increased their lead by a score of 17-0.
McLaurin would turn the ball over on downs on the Magee 41-yard line with 2:45 left in the half.
#23 Shaw for Magee takes the ball down the field to the 15-yard line. #7 DeMichael Green Touchdown pass from #3 Triston Newsome was good with 1:50 remaining. The point after attempt by Chafin was good. Magee on top by a score of 24-0.
Magee’s takes over after kickoff on McLaurin’s 38-yard line :22 seconds remaining in the half. #3 Newsome completes a pass to #5 Floyd with :02 remaining on the clock. The point after attempt was no good. Trojans on top what should have been 32-0 with a 6 point touchdown but referees recorded score as 31-0.
Magee fans were entrained by the Magee High School marching band’s half time show. The band presented their performance they will perform for competition Saturday, October 2, 2021 in Gautier, MS.
McLaruin kicks off to Magee to open the second half.
Tucker scored on a 50-yard touchdown pass from #3 Newsome. The point after attempt by Chafin was good. Magee lead by a score of 38-0. (still one point discrepancy)
McLaurin’s offensive was not able to produce and turned the ball over on downs.
#3 Newsome completed a 15-yard rushing play to be stopped on the 3 yard line. Shaw scored on a 3-yard touchdown. The point after attempt by Chafin was good. Magee increased their lead by a score of 45-0 (still 1 point discrepancy).
With 4:45 remaining #17 for Magee recovered a fumble . Magee scored on a #20-yard touchdown pass. The two point conversion was good. Magee increased the lead by a score of 53-0 (still one point discrepancy).
Once again, Magee found the end zone for the last time on the evening when #12 Tylan Benson on the defense had a fumble recovery for a touchdown. The point after attempt was no good. Magee added 6 more points to lead by a score of 59-0 (still one point discrepancy).
According to actual points Magee won by a score of 60-0. According score board Magee won by a score of 59-0. Either way Magee wins and wins BIG!
Magee will be back on the road Friday, October 8, 2021 to face the Hazlehurst Indians. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
