Soccer is underway for the 2019-2020 Magee Trojans. The excitement has been building through summer camps, skill sessions and preseason workouts and now it is time to take it to the field. The Trojans have a challenging schedule that features out of conference games against perennial strong programs Wesson, Forest, Laurel and Franklin County and newcomers, Philadelphia, Moss Point and Pisgah. The schedule also features games against rival, Mendenhall. The teams will play in the Laurel Showcase on November 9th. The Trojans play in Class I, District 6, with Crystal Springs, McLaurin, North Forrest and Piney Woods.
An exciting addition to the schedule is “City League Night” on November 21st which features the Trojans taking on the Mendenhall Tigers. Admission for all Magee City League Players will be free if they wear their jersey to the game. They can register for prizes and each player will be announced between the girls game and boys game. Girls play at 5:30 and Boys at 7:00.
The 2019-2020 girls are very young and inexperienced but have already shown growth early on. The team is having to rely on players as young as 7th grade to make contributions. They hope to use the tough out of conference games to prepare them for district play. They are led by Seniors, Chloe Booth, Jada Brown, Erin Davidson and Mary Alice Walker.
The boys are shooting to reclaim the District Championship this year. They are led by Seniors, JT Lee, Nathaniel Rodriguez-Mendez, Titus Mitchell, Eric Morales, Juan Morales, Samuel Rials, Bryce Schaubert and Shawn Scott. Most of these players have been on the team since 7th grade. Since entering high school, they have posted a 30-20-4 record and a District Championship in 2017-18 with a perfect 7-0 record. To highlight the excellence of this program, the boys have posted a 58-38-7 record over the last 6 years under the guidance of Coach Dick Wendt.
The teams would like to thank Fernando’s of Magee and Jose’s Restaurant and Grill for their special support this season.
