Trojans fall to North Pontotoc in the  first game of the State 3A Championship Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

What an honor and accomplishment for the Trojans just to be playing in the State Championship games!

Trustmark Park in Pearl, home of the MS Braves, was the setting of the MHSAA State Championship games.

The cards just did not fall for the Trojans. Magee won South State after playing 14 innings Tuesday night at West Marion. Due to weather, Magee could not finish South State games until Monday and Tuesday. In return, Magee exhausted 3 pitchers over the two days with Tuesday’s game lasting 14 inning.

The brackets for the State Championship game were already in place ready for play  Monday, May 13, 2019. Due to weather,  games were shifted to a start date of Wednesday, May 15, 2019. Unfortunately for Magee, rain delays forced Magee in a situation of back to back games leading to the State Playoff which allowed no rest for the pitchers.

MHSAA  bracket was set with 3A playing Wednesday May 15, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. and Thursday at 4:00.  Magee had little time to sleep and prepare for the big game.

Although Magee has depth in their pitching, removing the 3 starting pitchers  from the tournament rotation handicapped the Trojans.

Coach Eubanks appealed to MHSAA to rearrange games but all efforts were fruitless.

North Pontotoc  executed from Magee’s exhaustion. Jake Reader was on the mound for North Pontotoc where he allowed two hits, two runs and five strikeouts.

Seth Russell was the starting pitcher for Magee and went 5 innings before Chandler Pittman closed the game.

Magee plays again Thursday which will be four straight days of games for the Trojans. Some fans  are arguing the situation was more like 5 straight games with the extra innings played.

Magee plays with class and respect even when the cards are not in their favor.

Magee needs your support. These boys and their coaches  have done an excellent job all year.

Please arrive early and support the team. Magee definitely had the upper hand with fan support Wednesday.
