Trojans Coach Courtney Urges Team to Keep Fighting After Loss

MAGEE – Following Friday night’s 47–14 loss to rival Mendenhall, Magee Head Coach Chase Courtney reflected on the challenges facing his young team and encouraged his players to use the experience as a learning opportunity.

“It was a really difficult game last night,” Courtney said. “I hate that we couldn’t give all the fans a better product that came out to support us.”

The coach noted that a lack of experience and mounting injuries have made early-season games especially tough for the Trojans. “It’s difficult enough to win when you lack experience, but when injuries start piling up it just compounds,” he explained. “Both are a part of football, so we can’t think anybody is going to feel sorry for us. We just have to do a better job of executing when we have opportunities. We didn’t do that last night.”

Despite the setbacks, Courtney emphasized the importance of perseverance. “We are in a really difficult position right now, but the season is long, so we just need to keep fighting,” he said. “We are going to coach up the guys that are out there. The challenge to the guys is not to waste a loss, meaning learn from all the mistakes we made that contributed to the loss.”

The Trojans will look to regroup as they continue through the regular season, with hopes of turning lessons learned into stronger performances in the weeks ahead.

Coach Courtney on the Trojans’ Tough Loss

“Yeah, we lost our 4th offensive lineman last night. We will develop character from this or fold up like a cheap chair!

It’s tough right now with injuries and inexperience, but the season is long. We’re going to coach up the guys we’ve got, keep fighting, and learn from every mistake. Don’t waste a loss.” – Coach Chase Courtney

Go Trojans!

“It doesn’t get any easier this week as we go on the road to Mize. They are very talented and tremendously well coached, with one of the best backs in the state. Coach Maddox does an incredible job running his program the right way.” – Coach Chase Courtney
