TROJAN SOCCER TEAMS LOOK TO AN EXCITING 2017-2018
Submitted by Magee Goal Club
The young men and women of the MHS Soccer Teams have been building excitement through the summer. Many team members took advantage of a camp sponsored by William Carey. The boys also participated in a scrimmage against Petal. Both teams were scheduled to participate in the State Games of Mississippi but it was cancelled twice due to inclement weather. You can see the enthusiasm when the players talk about the upcoming season. Pre-season workouts and the official start of practices on October 16th can’t come fast enough for the players.

The teams will be led by Dick Wendt who has been guiding and encouraging students at MHS for a long time. A crest has been developed to emphasize Excellence and Character. Along with that, the team will focus on the “Red and Gray” Creed that has been adopted. The letters of “RED AND GRAY” are used in the following acronym that make up the creed:
RESPECTFUL
I will respect my coach, administration, teachers, teammates and classmates. I will play with sportsmanship at all times.
ENCOURAGING
I will lift up my teammates and not tear them down. I recognize that every role on a team is important and that unity is our best strength.
DETERMINED
I will not quit on my teammates and coaches. I will respond to obstacles with resolve and not with frustration.
GRATEFUL
I realize that playing high school soccer is a privilege. I will play with an attitude of thankfulness. I will give back to my school and community.
RESPONSIBLE
I will be a responsible student – athlete and citizen. I will not do anything to embarrass the Trojan Family and adversely affect my team.
AMBITIOUS
I will help my team raise the bar as we outwork every school in the classroom and on the athletic field.
YOU!
It is time for me to step up and be a leader. I will be the change I want to see.
Coach Wendt knows he has young teams but is excited about the potential. Wendt said, “We had respectable soccer teams last year. Both the boys and girls had three players graduate, but we have a good number of people that have been with us for a few years and have quite a bit of experience stepping into those roles. I am excited about the upcoming soccer season. We also have a new district. I would say that both boys and girls have a very good chance of being in the playoffs this year. However, we need to have young players coming out to get experience for future years. Every once in a while there are a few of the young ones that are good enough to play on the varsity team, as a starter or substitute. “
Students in the middle school presently not on the varsity teams will be receiving information in August regarding an organizational meeting for players and parents to discuss participation in the program. Varsity players and parents will also be holding meetings as well. You can keep up with the team on the school website and also on the Magee Goal Club Facebook Page.
Games will begin in November. These young men and women are working hard to represent their school and city. Get a schedule and come check out the exciting action this Fall and Winter!
