Jackson, MS. For the second year in a row, State Treasurer Lynn Fitch hosted a group of Cadette Girl Scouts at the Office of the State Treasurer for Girl Scouts Career Day.
The Scouts, grades 6-8, participated in activities to improve their personal finance skills, learned about the daily responsibilities of the Treasurer’s Office, and had lunch with Treasurer Fitch. The girls also toured the State Capitol and other state agencies, as well as heard from a panel of women in state government, including Senator Sally Doty (R-Brookhaven) and Deputy Treasurer Laura Jackson.

“After years as a cookie mom, I am delighted to build on our relationship with the Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi,” said Treasurer Fitch. “I’m particularly proud to do my part to help these young ladies work towards earning their Financing My Dreams Badge.  Study after study shows a tremendous gender gap in financial literacy.  Women need a little boost to be empowered by their finances, and we need to give them that power starting at a young age.”

Immediately following the activities, the scouts will host a cookie reception for state agencies located in the Woolfolk Building.
