Jackson, MS. Yesterday, at the 2018 Egg Bowl game in Oxford, Mississippi, Treasurer Lynn Fitch awarded two MACS Mississippi Affordable College Savings) scholarships totaling $3,058 to Mississippi college students during the halftime Tuition Toss sponsored by College Savings Mississippi.

“I am so pleased to be able to award these scholarships at Mississippi’s favorite Thanksgiving tradition, the Egg Bowl,” said Treasurer Lynn Fitch.  “The cost of higher education just keeps growing.  It is not just tuition, but also books, room and board, fees, and necessary technology like laptops.  College Savings Mississippi helps make your educational dreams more affordable.”

Michael Boyles, a 19-year-old student at Mississippi State University from Clinton, Mississippi, won the tuition toss and went home with a $2,529 MACS scholarship.  Hayden Tutor, an 18-year-old student at the University of Mississippi from Madison, Mississippi, was the runner-up, winning a $529 MACS scholarship.

As the official halftime sponsor of the Egg Bowl, College Savings Mississippi hosted the Tuition Toss on the field during halftime.  Two students, who were chosen at random from a pool of registered contestants, were given 30 seconds to throw up to 30 footballs through a target.  The student with the most footballs through the target was the winner while the other student was the runner-up.

College Savings Mississippi is a program administered through State Treasurer Fitch’s Office and the Treasurer acts as Chair of the Board for College Savings Mississippi.  In addition to MACS, College Savings Mississippi offers a second tax-advantaged savings option, MPACT (Mississippi Prepaid Affordable College Tuition).
