JACKSON, MISS. – The Mississippi Transportation Commission (MTC) at its October 8 meeting awarded contracts for maintenance projects throughout Mississippi.

“These projects will help MDOT continue to provide safe and reliable transportation to Mississippi’s traveling public,” said Commissioner Tom King, Southern Transportation District.

  • A $4.3 million contract was awarded to Walters Construction Company, Inc., of Laurel, for an overlay project on U.S. Highway 45 from the Wayne County line approximately eight miles north to County Road 280 in Wayne County.
  • A $4.8 million contract was awarded to Warren Paving, Inc., of Hattiesburg, for an overlay project of approximately seven miles of U.S. Highway 98 from Old Highway 63 to the state line in George County.
  • A $2.5 million contract was awarded to Dunn Roadbuilders, LLC, of Laurel, for an overlay project of approximately four miles of U.S. Highway 84 at the Collins Bypass in Covington County.

“Our number one priority at the Mississippi Department of Transportation is to keep the state of Mississippi safe,” said Commissioner Dick Hall, Central Transportation District.

The awarded contracts for the Central District were:

  • A $424,000 contract was awarded to K.V.K. Contracting, Inc., of Tarpon Springs, FL, for a bridge preservation project on U.S. Highway 61 at Little Bayou Pierre in Claiborne County.
  • A $941,148 contract was awarded to Century Construction Group, Inc., of Tupelo, for a bridge repair project on State Route 12 in Holmes County.
  • A $1.3 million contract was awarded to Dickerson & Bowen, Inc., of Brookhaven, for a mill and overlay project on State Route 16 in Neshoba County.
  • A $2.3 million contract was awarded to APAC – Mississippi, Inc., of Richland, for an overlay of approximately six miles of State Route 552 from Alcorn State University to U.S. Highway 61 in Claiborne and Jefferson counties.
  • A $2.5 million contract was awarded to Dickerson & Bowen for a mill and overlay project of approximately five miles on State Route 471 from Grant’s Ferry Road to State Route 25 in Rankin County.

“Safety is always MDOT’s top priority,” said Commissioner Mike Tagert, Northern Transportation District. “These projects will significantly increase the safety and mobility throughout North Mississippi.”

The awarded contracts for the Northern District were:

  • A $3.4 million contract was awarded to Lehman-Roberts Company, of Memphis, for a project to mill and overlay approximately five miles of U.S. Highway 61 from the Bolivar County line to near State Route 161 in Coahoma County.
  • A $4.7 million contract was awarded to Lehman-Roberts a mill and overlay project on approximately 12 miles of U.S. Highway 278 from the Panola County line to the Illinois Central Railroad overpass in Panola County.

MDOT will release additional information regarding timelines and impacts to traffic prior to the start of construction.

MDOT will alert the traveling public prior to any changes in traffic.
