The Simpson Cougars beat Starkville Academy to claim their spot in the semifinals. The game was held at Simpson Academy, on February 8, 2023. Simpson ended the first quarter with a 10-point lead (16-6). At the beginning of the second quarter, those attending were told to exit to the highschool and junior high buildings due to a tornado. Faculty did an excellent job at making sure both schools were safe and handled the situation well. The teams and crowd were in the halls for around 15 minutes until given the ok. Once Simpson and Starkville had warmed back up, the game continued. The Cougars were still in the lead going into halftime (27-16). Coming out of halftime, Simpson and Starkville were ready to keep fighting. By the end of the third quarter, Simpson was ahead by 16 (38-22). Starkville put up a hard fight but could not pull through in the end. Simpson won 49-33.
Simpson will be playing Heritage Academy in the semifinals on Friday, at 7:45 p.m.. The winner of this game will play the winner of Magnolia Heights vs Leake Academy. The semifinals will be held at Simpson Academy, on February 10, 2023.
