IMG_8834Wednesday, May 6, 2015, the Special Olympic Torch was carried up Main Street Magee! Law enforcement personnel from all over the state “backed up” the torch run with sirens and lights flashing. The Magee PD, Magee Fire Department, Mendenhall PD, and the Simpson County Sheriff’s department represented our area well.

As the torch came into view the Boswell residents and locals began clapping and cheering. The sights and sounds made me, as a citizen of the United States and Magee, beam with pride.

I wonder sometimes if “we” (the citizens of Magee and Simpson County) realize how much Boswell and Millcreek mean to our area. These places are some, if not, the largest employees in Simpson County.

The faces of the BRC residents, especially the athletics that will be competing in the games, were wide with smiles of pride and joy. As for me, my eyes were filled with tears as this spectacular event unfolded before me. We, my friends, have athletics headed to the Olympics!

The games will begin this weekend on the coast. The torch is scheduled to arrive at Keesler Air Force Base around noon on Saturday.
The Special Olympic program is deep rooted in Boswell because of the years of dedication to quite a few people. Sure, this is a job…but these employees love their clients and value the dreams they strive to achieve.

BRC director Steve Allen opened the program…Mayor Jimmy Clyde played the trumpet… special guests were recognized.IMG_8835

Joy and I decided to try an experiment (what else is new Ha)…we wondered if we could live stream while driving the MageeNews.com golf cart down the middle of Main Street in front of the runners. We must be nuts!…but I will say this, Joy did an awesome job….we just had one small problem (we’re learning)…when we moved away from the cart to film the program, we forgot to “carry” the “Mifi” with us…therefore, we got out of range and did not pick up any of the program. I am so sorry (I feel like I say that all the time)…but I am…but we are not giving up. Each time we live stream we learn something knew (good and bad)…and one day (ha) we are going to have it all together because Jason Ratcliffe is gonna make us!

I hope you will enjoy the “running of the torch.”

I have a free shirt from the day’s activities to give away!!!! All you have to do to win is comment on this article…answer the question…your name will go in the “pot” and I’ll choose a winner night . The shirts are awesome…red with the torch…really cool…so here’s your chance!

Question: I like the Special Olympics because…..

Now, you know I like to give stuff away!
