The Magee Board of Alderman met Tuesday, January 18, 2023.

Magee Librarian Frances Meadows met before the board thanking them for the new LED  lighting installed at the library.

A motion was made to accept the amended dog ordinance adding tethering of dogs. The original dog ordinance is still in effect with the new amendment.

The board granted permission for Melina Green to seek a grant to help the elderly. Green will apply for the grant and update board if approved.

The board approved a $1.00 per square foot new fee for signage within the city.

Grass cutting bids will be received in the coming months.. The locations to be considered are Highway 49, McNair Springs, and Magee City Cemetery. The bids will be ready for approval to advertise by the next board meeting.

Chief Shane Little reported more uniforms have been delivered and the public will begin to start seeing the officers in full uniform in the coming weeks.

Park Director Jimmy Zilla reported nets are being repaired at the girls fields and the upcoming tournament team is increasing with participation.Thirty seven teams are expected in a tournament at the Sportsplex in two weeks.

A heated discussion came when an invoice was submitted for approval for pressure washing of bleachers. Public comments questioned if the invoice had to be bided. Any invoice under $5,000 does not require a second bid. The question then was if proper ethics were followed due to relationship of alderman and contractor.

The board voted to amend their social media policy to avoid any use of TikTok on city equipment or cell phones.

With no further business meeting entered executive session.
