The 97th Simpson County Super Bowl took place at Trojan Field Friday, September 3, 2021.

The Super Bowl open to a larger crowd ready to cheer their favorite team on to victory.

Magee has had obstacles to overcome before their first game of the season. Magee High School was quarantined for two weeks the first day MSHAA allowed football practice to begin. Therefore, the Trojans entered their first game of the season two weeks behind. The Trojans have had to work hard to make up time loss.

Magee Cheerleaders

Captains for Magee were #1 Jody Durr, #2 Jameyian Spencer, and #3 Tristen Newsome. Magee won the toss and deferred the ball until second half.

Mendenhall Cheerleaders

The Tigers received the opening kickoff. Mendenhall wasted no time crossing the goal line when #14 Chris Davis scored. The point after attempt was no good and Mendenhall lead by a score of 6-0.

Magee was driving down the field and threw an interception to #14 Davis for the Tigers.

Later Mendenhall would kick a short punt from their own 15-yard line to their 32-yard line. Magee would have the advantage and great field possession. Magee was called for a holding penalty to back them up. On fourth down Magee fumbled and #99 Prentiss Eichwurtzle for Mendenhall recovered the fumble.

Second quarter Magee threw another interception to turn the ball over. With 1:45 left in half Mendenhall completed a 30-yard pass to #4 Walter Owens for a touchdown. Tigers went for two and were not successful. The Tigers scored again with :30 left in the half when #7 Chance Barron intercepted the ball and returned it for a 60-yard touchdown. The point after attempt was not good. Mendenhall lead by a score of 18-0 entering half time.

Second half struggles returned for Magee’s offensive. Mendenhall found the end zone again in the third quarter scoring when #15 D K Jenkins scored on a quarter back keeper. The two-point conversion was no good. Tigers were up by score of 24-0.

Tigers scored late in the fourth when #8 Nicholas Williams competed a 15-yard catch. The point after attempt was good. Mendenhall will seal the win by a score of 31-0.

Magee varsity lost their first non-conference game to their arch rival Mendenhall Tigers.

Mendenhall’s defense held strong on the night causing turnovers and holding the Trojans scoreless.

With the lost the Trojans are 0-1 and Mendenhall moves to 1-1.

Magee plays a road game against the Florence Eagles next week. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
