The Mississippi College softball team had three student-athletes named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-South Region Teams, it was announced on Wednesday (May 10).
Junior Katherine Lee (Monroe, La.) and freshman Carly Crawford (Hattiesburg, Miss.) were First Team selections, while senior Tylan Buckley (Philadelphia, Miss.) was named to the Second Team for the newly crowned Gulf South Conference Tournament champions.
This year’s all-region squads were comprised of 210 student-athletes from 116 programs and were chosen by a vote of the head coaches in each region. The 2017 NFCA Division II All-American teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 24 at the NCAA Division II Championship Banquet in Salem, Va.
FIRST TEAM
Lee has started all 52 games in center field for the Lady Choctaws and has a team-best batting average of .391. Her 68 hits leads the squad and is the second-best single-season total in school history.
The two-year starter in the outfield ranks 2nd on the team with 32 stolen bases in 2017, which gives her 80 career swipes, ranking 3rd in school history. Lee also ranks 2nd on the team in at-bats (174) and triples (2).
Crawford has started all but one game behind the plate in her freshman season, ranking 3rd on the team with a .351 batting average and leading the squad with 13 doubles. She also ranks 2nd on the team with 42 RBI and a .581 slugging percentage.
The former Oak Grove HS standout was named a First Team All-Gulf South Conference selection last week and earned a spot on the GSC All-Tournament Team for her efforts in the championship run.
SECOND TEAM
Buckley leads the Lady Choctaws in 2017 in home runs (9), runs batted in (45), runs scored (44), slugging percentage (.599) and on-base percentage (.476). She also ranks 3rd on the team with 21 stolen bases on the season.
The First Team All-GSC selection ranks 2nd in MC history with 22 career home runs and her .668 career slugging percentage is the 2nd-best in school history.
The Lady Choctaws are headed to the NCAA Division II South Regional 1 this week in Pensacola, Fla., hosted by the University of West Florida. They open the tournament on Thursday against GSC foe Valdosta State at 4:00 p.m.
