Senior Sayit Mejia Bello and freshmen Jess Davenport and Andrea McDonald were named to the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) All-MidEast Region Team, it was announced on Tuesday (Dec. 8).
Mejia Bello (Bogota, Colombia) finished tied for the team-lead with eight assists and ranked third on the team with eight goals scored. Of her eight goals on the season, three came as game-winners against Belhaven, Delta State and Spring Hill. The senior also scored in each of the “pool play” games of the NCCAA Tournament, earning a spot on the All-NCCAA Tournament Team.
Davenport (Widnes, England) was MC’s leading scorer and also earned D2CCA All-South Region honors last week. The rookie scored 13 goals with three assists on the season, despite only playing in 15 matches due to injury. Davenport scored two game-winning goals, including one in the NCCAA Tournament victory over Central Christian (4-0).
McDonald (New Orleans, La.) played all but 133 minutes in net this season, making 21 starts out the 22 matches in her rookie season. She posted a 0.68 goals against average, which ranks 4th in school history for a single season. McDonald made 68 saves, allowing just 15 goals on 209 shots faced.
The Lady Choctaws finished 14-4-4 on the season, advancing to the national championship match of the NCCAA Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla. last week.
