Lawana Thompson won the election for Ward 2 City of Magee Alderman defeating Joe Worrell 43-41.
Tuesday night following a lengthy counting time, Republican Chairman Chris Purdum announced the vote was tied 41-41.
Absentee and affidavit ballots were counted Wednesday morning at City Hall. All absentee ballots were thrown out due to signatures not verified. Seven absentee ballots were casted. The decision to not count the absentee ballots was made by the Attorney General’s office. (Case law 2020-EC-00477-SCT)
Two affidavit ballots were counted both in favor of Mrs. Thompson.
Swearing-in date for Lawana Thompson has not been determined. The City of Magee Board of Aldermen will be composed of 3 men and 2 ladies.
