James and his son Jamie (Ashley)
The Scriptural passage selected for today comes from James 3:17: “The wisdom that comes from Heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” We, as God’s children, are admonished to seek wisdom, ask the Lord for it, and it’ll be given freely. Also, we’re told that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. We know the source is God, and the Scripture cited from James gives some of the proofs and attributes of wisdom. Therefore, let us all seek it and use it wisely. It is a gift from God and should be highly prized. Amen!
The picture for today is of an antique chair I own and love. I admire the wood (walnut) and the artistry of its design and execution and often wonder how many people over the years have sat in it, or perhaps left this life while sitting upright in it? The blue velvet pillow carries the embroidered Scripture “Grow in Grace.” A chair when looked at, as I look at this one, becomes far more than mere wood, nails, and cloth. It carries stories and almost assumes a life of its own.
