Magee High School Class of 2018 turned the tassels to become graduates and now Alumni.
Rain posed a threat for the evening. The ceremony took place on Trojan field.
Due to the ceremony being moved to auditorium earlier in the day the band was cancelled and was not in attendance.
Graduates marched in two single file lines to their prospected areas to the music of “Pomp and Circumstance.”
Dr. Tom Duncan, Principal, welcomed everyone to graduation. Calder Reed, Student Body President, led in the invocation.
Dr. Duncan recognized all high honor students, who were seated on the front row. All Seniors receiving scholarships were recognized.
Madison May, Historian, gave a speech on the history of the class. This class started with approximately 150 students in K4 and graduated 96 Tuesday night. A million dollars in scholarships has been awarded to this class. May also noted that this was an very intellectual class with high ACT scores, honor graduates, and MS Scholars.
Mac Anderson, Salutatorian, address the audience on a look back and where the class has arrived. He noted his saddest time was the last game he played as a TROJAN football player. Anderson also address the graduates to look at where they are today compared to a look of where they were their Freshman year as a project required by Coach Smith.
Valedictorian Lauren Burkes thanked everyone that had been a special part of her life and encouraged her to achieve what she has today.
Dr. Tom Duncan and Dr. Maron Lacey presented Diplomas to the graduating class of 2018.
Owen McCool, Senior Class President, led in the benediction.
Class Flower is the white rose, Cardinal Red is the class color chosen. Class motto is “Be Proactive” – Joan Fabbri and Class Song is “Five More Minutes” by Scotty McCreary.
Class sponsors are: Suzanne Barnett, Kathy Gibson, Marcus Lomas, David Tadlock, and Starece Westheimer.
The foundation has been laid, the stepping stones are in order, the road has been a successful path thus far. Only time will tell where the road leads for the future. -Author Unknown.
