THE NEW YEAR’S HOLIDAY TRAVEL PERIOD SUMMARY

The Mississippi Highway Patrol New Year’s Holiday Period concluded Monday, January 1 st, at midnight. The period began on Saturday, December 30 th , at 6:00 a.m.

Mississippi Highway Patrol issued 4.865 citations, made 77 arrests for impaired driving, and investigated 119 crashes resulting in 21 injuries, with one fatal crash and one death.

The deadly crash occurred in Hancock County. Fatal Crash Involving a Pedestrian, Hancock County,1/1/2024.

On Monday, January 1, 2024, at approximately 12:31 a.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Highway 607 in Hancock County involving a pedestrian. A 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 38-year-old Teuta Karaliu of Slidell, LA, was traveling south on Highway 607 when it collided with a pedestrian walking in the middle of Highway 607. The Hancock County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the deceased. This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol
