The passage selected for today is found in Proverbs 28:27: “He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.” The Word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God. Yes, Solomon, at the height of his reign as king, enjoyed a very close union with God. He knew that his Maker had a deep concern for the poor and truly needy. It was, therefore, incumbent for the people of God to reach out and help the distressed, the indigent, the disenfranchised. We today are, likewise, admonished to help those less fortunate about us who are in desperate need. Let us be cheerful givers and perform our own outreach ministries within our own communities. The need is great! Amen!
