The Magic of Millcreek
Some people might think the use of the word magic with Millcreek is unusual…but if you have visited or toured the facility…magic makes complete sense!
Millcreeek was “born” in Magee, Mississippi under the guidance of Dr. J. O. Stephens. Dr. Stephens knew the need for a specialty care facility for children in our state…and he worked until he achieved this goal. I don’t believe even Dr. Stephens dreamed of what “his” facility would become.
Owned by ACADIA, Millcreek of Magee continues to set the highest of standards and reach the top goals.
Recently, Joy Sartin and I paid a visit to Millcreek to learn more about an outstanding award Millcreek had received. Before I left, I thought everyone in the building and “across the road” deserved an award!
Millcreek has excellent employees…many who have been with the facility since its early years.
Did you know that Millcreek employees 600 people making it the largest employer in our county?
Did you know that Millcreek is the largest private provider for children and adolescents in the state?
The “did you know” questions can go on and on!
There are nine group homes and three in house units on the Millcreek campus.
There are three Therapeutic Group Homes located in Raleigh, Brookhaven, and Natchez which all come under the directorship of our local Millcreek.
Millcreek of Magee received the Patient Safety and Facility Safety award from the parent company ACADIA! For nine consecutive months, Millcreek met the rigid rules set forth by ACADIA. Only 4 out of 57 units in the state received this award! The award is a tribute to every employee of Millcreek of Magee!
Millcreek Behavioral Health was the first provider of child and adolescent services in Mississippi to receive Joint Commission accreditation in the areas of long term care for mental illness, mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
Millcreek provides an array of community based services and support under the Home and Community Based Services Mental Retardation/Developmental Disabilities (MR/DD) Wavier Program administered by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health (DMH). Services and supports are provided to eligible individuals and their families to enable individuals to remain with their families or return to their community from a congregate care setting. Services include: respite care, behavior support/intervention, attendant care, therapy services, supported employment, residential habilitation, day habilitation and prevocational services.
Millcreek of Mississippi serves a total of over 885 children, adolescents, and adults each day.
Millcreeks’ goal is to create lasting changes in the lives of those we touch, one person at a time, one day at a time.
Millcreek helps children live happier, healthier, more productive lives.
As I sat and listened to different department heads explain about their individual duties, I was overwhelmed with the love and commitment the employees have for the children of Millcreek and the facility itself.
Who knew what was across “the creek”…I sure didn’t! Thank you to the staff of Millcreek for allowing me to venture into your world! As citizens of Magee and Simpson County we need to say “thank you” to every employee we see. Millcreek is a mission…and the fields are ripe for harvest. Our mission field is” across the creek”…and we need to seek and find ways to help and minister to these precious children.
