There are so many varieties and styles to choose from when it comes to the category of tops! Since your top is the piece of clothing closest to your face, this makes it an important category. I avoid colors like light orange or coral colors since my skin tone is olive because it washes me out. The same shade might look great on a skirt or pair of trousers, but right next to my face, they are not flattering. I do select a lot of purple, blues, reds, or off white because these colors compliment me.
Its nice to have several color options in my plain everyday versions of: tank tops, T-shirts, and button-downs–as well as a few special options of each. I suggest having more variety in this area of your wardrobe than in any other category simply because you can wear the same pair of jeans with different tops to have completely separate looks.
Remember, t-shirts for a more casual look, a silk shell and blazer for a more professional look and a simple pretty blouse for date night. Stock up on your favorite styles and colors that make you feel your best!
Button-downs are great for fall and versatile. They look great alone or as a layered item. They can be tied at the waist, tucked in or as a jacket. If you wear as a jacket just be sure the first layer shirt is tucked in.
T-shirts are great when wanting to be comfy and easy but can be used for a more tailored look too. Whether the tee is solid, patterned, embellished or cropped there is a tee shirt for whatever the occasion. To really dress up a t-shirt, wear it with statement jewelry. A long pendant or a wide cuff bracelet can really elevate a cotton tee and take it from plain to stunning! Jewelry is a great way to infuse your look with personality and make it unique to you!
Tank tops are thought of as summer days but they can also be used as an ideal year-round layering item. You can pair any style of tank with anything for a new look. Tank tops keep your wardrobe more functional. Tank tops are good for packing for trips since they are lightweight, don’t wrinkle nor take up a lot of space.
Blouses are the most standout piece in your closet. When your going for a professional look, blouses can pack a punch. They give a more polished and feminine look since the fabric is like silk, satin or linen with a focus on how they accentuate your shape. One thing is certain about a well-fitting blouse, you don’t have to think through a lot of accessories, play up your hair or makeup. Put on a great blouse and your work is pretty much done.
One can never have too many white or cream colored blouses, whichever one of these colors works best for your skin tone. I am suppose to wear creams as opposed to whites. Just make your selections in different styles and your good to go.
Make sure your blouse fits well. The shoulder seam should hit the edge of your shoulder. If it hangs below shoulder it is too big and then the underarm usually is too roomy. Excess material will always add bulk and volume to your frame. Also, make sure your blouse doesn’t pull or gape across your bust when you move your arms, if it does, its too small.
The wonderful thing about the category of tops is you have so many options with these in your wardrobe to mix and match with your staple few pants and skirts. Change it up! No one can say your boring then!!!
