THANKSGIVING
“We would worry less if we praised more. Thanksgiving is the enemy of discontent and dissatisfaction.” – H. A. Ironside
Mother gave me Daddy’s books when he died in 1973. At various times, I look thru them and see the old, battered pages of books written long ago by Godly men. The books are worn and faded, some of the pages are very fragile, but the message is still vibrant and alive! As I pondered Thanksgiving, I came across this quote from H. A. Ironside. He was one of the great authors, ministers, and teachers that lived during the turn of the 20th century. Wisdom is never too old or too old fashioned! The quote about Thanksgiving is very appropriate for this week. Here are a few of my favorites from H. A. Ironside.
“It is well to remember that reading books about the Bible is a very different thing to searching the Word for oneself.”
“The Gospel is not good advice to be obeyed, it is good news to be believed.”
“The testimony of the lips indicates the state of the heart”
“God is looking for broken men who have judged themselves in the light of the cross of Christ. When He wants anything done, He takes up men who have come to the end of themselves, whose confidence is not in themselves, but in God.”
