The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is excited to announce another major renovation project for Mississippi State Parks. Starting Tuesday, September 5, 2023, Roosevelt State Park will be closing all RV campsites, primitive camping sites, and bathhouses. This closure is in addition to a full campsite closure at Percy Quin State Park and a partial campsite closure at Paul B. Johnson State Park and aims to enhance the visitor experience by improving the facilities and accommodations within the park.
Despite the temporary closures, Roosevelt is still welcoming guests to stay at 15 available cabins and 20 hotel rooms. In addition to overnight accommodations, the park’s day use is still available and open for exploration. Explore the beauty of nature along six scenic trails, find relaxation and shade in five pavilions, and indulge in a delightful picnic area. Embrace the fun and challenge of the Moccasin Bend disc golf course, take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool, or slide down the water slide. Engage in fishing and boating activities or get into the game at the softball field. Additionally, two tennis courts have been recently renovated for sports enthusiasts. Throughout the renovation period, day-use bathrooms will remain open, providing convenience for all our guests.
The closures are expected to last up to one year. Guests will still be able to make reservations for the available cabins and hotels during the closure time.
To minimize any inconvenience caused by the closure, all guests with affected reservations will be contacted via call or email by Mississippi State Parks. We appreciate your continued patience as we navigate these closures and bring these updates to life. Be sure to follow us on social media to stay up to date on how the project is progressing.
These projects are a major step in our improvement plan. We are excited to be entering a new era for Mississippi State Parks. It is our goal to elevate and enrich the current offerings at Mississippi State Parks while also preserving the timeless elements our guests have loved for generations.
