Tameika Smith and Tim Gray are in a run-off for Simpson County Chancery Clerk which will be decided on Tuesday, November 29, 2022.

Tameika received 1,552 votes in the primary election .I had a sit down visit with Tameika as she explained her reasons for running for the position of Chancery Clerk

” I was asked a question and I feel like I should share my answer with all of you. So the question was.. Can you share some of your goals you have for the Chancery Clerk’s Office if you win? I’ve worked under the 13th Chancery District for 15 years. I decided to run after the former clerk retired because there is work to be done. Our system needs someone that first loves God and his people. In my opinion our system has a few holes in it that needs repairing in order to move forward we can’t keep patching the holes they need fixing. The children and adults that I see daily that come through the system need someone that will help be a solution to our problems not a hindrance. Another reason I decided to run is my background is in Mental Health and I love people. I’ve seen alot of sick people come through the Chancery Clerk’s office adults and children on court commitments over the years some with drug addictions, behavior problems, and suffering from mental illnesses.  I believe sick people need treatment not jail my goal is to make sure all people are treated fairly and move as fast as possible to treatment facilities such as long term,  short term, or a unit to stabilize him or her. Sick people shouldn’t feel as if he or she is being punished because life changes occur that can happen to any of us at anytime. My ultimate goals is to continue to help move our county in the right direction. I do believe Simpson County deserves someone qualifed and skilled to help make decisions when dealing with the lives of others. Someone my ask what makes you qualified? My hands on experience is my number one answer. Most people would say my degrees qualifies me however, having obtained both a BS in Psychology and a MS in Counseling Psychology helps, but hands on experience is the best teacher. The Chancery Clerk also acts as the county auditor, treasurer and assists the Board of Supervisors and keeps the minutes. The Chancery Clerk’s duties also include Clerk of the Chancery Court and Custodian of Public Land Records. If anyone has questions for me feel free to ask. You can send me a direct message or comment on this post. On November 29th, 2022 please consider Tameika M. Smith for Simpson County Chancery Clerk. Always remember change is good. The citizens of Simpson County deserves someone that knows the system and cares about the people. I’m not your typical candidate but if given the opportunity you want be disappointed! “
