The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued the following statements.
Multiple suspects have been taken into custody regarding the shooting death of off-duty state trooper Lieutenant Troy Morris. Treyon Washington, 24, was taken into custody in Jefferson County and has been charged with murder. He is being held in the Jefferson County Detention Facility with no bond. Cdarrius Norman, 17, and Damion Whittley, 25, were arrested in New Orleans, LA. Norman and Whitley have been charged with murder and are awaiting extradition to Mississippi.
Throughout the investigation, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has received assistance from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, U.S. Marshals Service, Louisiana State Police and several other agencies making these arrests possible.
“While we are pleased with the progress of this investigation, we realize there is much work left to be done,” said Colonel Randy Ginn. ‘The tireless efforts of law enforcement has been inspiring and the public outpouring of support and concern has touched us all and has shown Lieutenant Morris’ family that Mississippians truly care about the officers who protect them.”
“Again, I would like to start by saying that our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Lieutenant Troy Morris,” said Commissioner Sean Tindell. “I met with his family yesterday and assured them that we are working with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners as we investigate his murder. The progress that has been made is a direct result of their hard work and dedication.”

(First Statement)Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Agents are investigating a shooting that took the life of an off-duty state trooper in Jefferson County.
On August 7, 2020 at approximately 4:30 A.M. the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation responded to a shooting death in Jefferson County on US 61. Upon arrival agents discovered the driver of a US Postal Service delivery truck deceased in the vehicle. The driver, identified as Troy L. Morris, 58, of Natchez, MS was a 27 year veteran and Lieutenant with the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Lieutenant Morris worked part time for the US Postal Service. The MBI Crime Scene Unit responded with agents to gather evidence and conduct interviews.
“This is a sad day for law enforcement, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, and the State of Mississippi. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Lieutenant Troy Morris. Local, state, and federal agents will work tirelessly to ensure justice,” said Commissioner Sean Tindell.
“We are deeply saddened at the loss of Lieutenant Troy Morris,” said Colonel Randy Ginn, Director of MHP. “He was a good man, friend, and a valuable member of this agency. He will truly be missed by the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
The US Postal Service in conjunction with Mississippi Crime Stoppers are offering a $105,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person or suspects.
